What is bespoke in-house safety training?
Bespoke in-house safety training is a course designed around an organisation's own activities, people, equipment and risk profile, rather than a fixed syllabus. It is usually delivered at your premises, using your procedures and your plant, and the content, duration and assessment are agreed before the course is built.
Standard courses work well when the subject, the equipment and the expected outcome are consistent. Plenty of organisations do not work that way. You might run unusual plant, have long-established company procedures, use specific lifting arrangements, or have a team whose experience ranges from brand new to twenty years on the tools.
In those situations a course built around the actual work is more useful than a generic one. Instead of relying on stock examples, we can use your real work scenarios, company procedures, equipment information, photographs, lift plans and risk assessments, and set practical tasks against the jobs your people genuinely carry out.
The aim is never to make training easier or to lower the standard. It is to make it relevant. Where a recognised qualification or operator card is the right route, we will say so and point you at NPORS accredited training rather than presenting an in-house course as an equivalent.

A four-day novice lift planning and Appointed Person programme for an industrial overhead travelling crane environment, including practical planning work against the site's own lifting operations.

How a bespoke course comes together
Five steps from first conversation to delivery. Most of the work happens before anyone sets foot in a classroom, which is what makes the course worth doing.
Understand the work
We clarify the task, the equipment, the environment, the roles people hold and what they need to be able to do at the end.
Review your information
Manuals, load charts, lift plans, risk assessments, photographs and your own procedures all feed into the course.
Agree the right route
Awareness, familiarisation, practical skills, assessment, or an accredited course where that is what you actually need.
Build and deliver
Examples, exercises, workbooks and practical activity are adapted to the agreed scope and delivered to your team.
Record the outcome
You receive the agreed attendance, assessment or certification evidence, plus anything we think is worth following up.

Duration and cost
We do not publish fixed prices for bespoke training, and there is a straightforward reason for that. A course might be a two-hour awareness session for a handful of supervisors or a four-day novice programme with practical assessment. Quoting a headline figure for either would tell you almost nothing useful.
Every bespoke course is scoped individually. After a short training needs review we will recommend the most suitable format and give you a clear quotation, so you know what you are getting and what it costs before anything is committed.

Bespoke or accredited?
This is worth being clear about, because getting it wrong is expensive. Some bespoke courses are in-house awareness, familiarisation or task-specific training. They are useful, they are built properly, and they are not automatically nationally accredited qualifications.
Where you need a recognised qualification or an operator card, we will point you at the accredited route instead, including NPORS training where that applies, or an NVQ assessment where the role calls for it. We would rather tell you that at the enquiry stage than have you find out later.
One thing to keep in mind
Completing a course does not by itself appoint someone to a dutyholder or lifting role. Employers remain responsible for competence, experience, authorisation and supervision.

Either. Most bespoke training happens at the client's site, because that is where the equipment, the procedures and the real working conditions are. We can also deliver at our Ipswich training centre if that suits better, or run a mix of the two where the theory works well in a classroom and the practical needs to happen on site.
Delivering at your site does need a suitable space for the classroom element, and safe access to any equipment being used.
How long does a bespoke course take to arrange?
It depends on how much needs building. A familiarisation session using your existing documents can often be arranged fairly quickly. A full novice programme with bespoke workbooks and practical assessment takes longer, because the material has to be written and the practical elements planned around your equipment.

Will our people get a certificate?
Yes, though what the certificate represents depends on the course. In-house training results in attendance or assessment records and in-house certification. Where the course follows an accredited route, delegates receive the relevant accredited evidence or card.
We will tell you which applies before the course is booked, so there is no confusion afterwards about what the paperwork demonstrates.
Can you train a mixed-ability group?
Usually, and it is one of the more common reasons people come to us. A group with a range of experience often struggles on a standard course, because the content is either too basic for half the room or too advanced for the other half.
Tell us the spread of experience at the enquiry stage. Sometimes the answer is one course pitched carefully, sometimes it is two shorter sessions, and occasionally it is worth splitting the group entirely.
Can you use our own procedures and documents?
That is largely the point. Manuals, load charts, lift plans, risk assessments, method statements, photographs of your own site and your existing company procedures can all be built into the course.
It makes the training far more relevant, and it has a useful side effect. Working through your documents with a group sometimes surfaces gaps or inconsistencies that are worth knowing about.
What if a standard course would actually be better?
We will say so. Bespoke training is the right answer when the standard offer genuinely does not fit. When it does fit, a scheduled course is usually quicker and cheaper, and we will point you at it.
