Description
The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations is aimed at construction operatives who carry out carpentry, joinery, and related wood-based trade activities. This qualification is ideal for those wishing to demonstrate their occupational competence, achieve a nationally recognised qualification, and progress their career within the construction sector.
Through this NVQ, you will demonstrate your ability to prepare, cut, assemble, and install wood components to specification. Depending on your pathway, this may include site carpentry, architectural joinery, shopfitting, or wheelwrighting. You’ll also show competence in interpreting drawings, using hand and power tools safely and effectively, setting out work areas, and following health and safety practices on-site.
Assessment is carried out in your workplace and is based entirely on real work activities. Evidence is gathered through on-site observation, professional discussion, witness testimony, and portfolio submission. There are no written exams—your competence is demonstrated through your practical skills and knowledge in a live working environment.
Successful completion of this qualification supports applications for the CSCS Skilled Worker (Blue) Card, providing industry recognition of your skills and enhancing career progression opportunities in carpentry, joinery, and other wood occupations.
The maximum timescale for this qualification is 12 months, however it can be completed in as little as 4 weeks.
